Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

WatchPick is a cinema discovery application developed by Examined Screen Studio. The app helps users discover films and series streaming in India, organised by taste and verified across major OTT platforms.

This Privacy Policy explains what information WatchPick collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

2. Information we do not collect

WatchPick does not collect, store, or process any of the following:

• Name, email address, phone number, or any contact information
• Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or tracking cookies
• Location data
• Payment or financial information
• Usage analytics or behavioural tracking
• Browsing history outside the app

3. Information stored on your device

WatchPick stores the following data locally on your device using browser localStorage:

• Your watchlist — titles you have marked as Want to Watch, Liked, Seen, or Not Interested. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to use Cloud Sync.
• Your preferences — genre selections, platform toggles, language and sort preferences.
• A first-visit flag — a single value (wp_welcomed) that records whether you have seen the welcome screen, so it does not show again.

All of this data is stored locally on your device. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser or app data.

4. Cloud Sync — optional feature

WatchPick offers an optional Cloud Sync feature that allows you to back up and restore your watchlist across devices. This feature is entirely opt-in.

If you choose to use Cloud Sync:

• You create a passphrase of your choice. This passphrase is never stored in plain text — it is converted into a one-way cryptographic hash (SHA-256) before being used as your identifier.
• Your watchlist data (film IDs, titles, and status) is stored on a server hosted on PythonAnywhere under the hashed identifier. No name, email, or personal information is attached to this data.
• If you forget your passphrase, your cloud-synced data cannot be recovered, as the passphrase hash cannot be reversed.
• You can delete your cloud data at any time by contacting us.

The server does not log IP addresses or access times in a form that is linked to individual users.

5. Third-party services

WatchPick uses the following third-party APIs to provide its core functionality:

• The Movie Database (TMDB) — film metadata, ratings, cast, crew, posters, and watch provider data. WatchPick sends film search queries and film IDs to TMDB's API. TMDB's privacy policy applies to their service: themoviedb.org/privacy-policy
• wsrv.nl — an image proxy service used to load film poster images. Image URLs are passed through wsrv.nl to ensure reliable loading on Indian networks.
• YouTube — film trailers are embedded from YouTube. When you play a trailer, YouTube's standard embed player loads. YouTube's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy

WatchPick does not share any user data with these services beyond what is necessary to fetch the requested content.

6. Children's privacy

WatchPick is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through this app, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

7. Data security

Your local watchlist data is stored on your own device and is subject to the security of that device. Cloud Sync data is stored using hashed identifiers and does not contain personally identifiable information, reducing the risk of exposure in the event of a data breach.

8. Your rights

Because WatchPick does not collect personally identifiable information, most data protection rights (access, correction, portability) are addressed by the fact that your data lives on your own device.

If you have used Cloud Sync and wish to delete your server-side data, please contact us at the address below and we will delete your watchlist from our servers within 7 business days.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of WatchPick after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
